pengyou.net vs investment.net: Which one sold for $100,000?

Pengyou means “friend” in Chinese. It is is the transliteration of this Chinese word “朋友” into the Roman Alphabet. Investment, well it means investment. I don’t really think it needs much explanation.

So what is significant about these 2 domains? Well they both sold this week. One sold for $100,000 and the other for $25,250. Investment is one of my all time favorite keywords. I once registered a dot mobi simply because it was a two word domain with the word Investment. Investment has 201,000 unique searches a month with an Estimated Avg. CPC of $6.37 giving “Investment” a footprint of 1,280,370. Quite an amazing keyword isn’t it! For comparison sake “pengyou” has unique monthly searches totally 2,900 and an Estimated Avg. CPC of $.05 giving it a footprint of 145.

I assume at this point if you didn’t already know you would assume that “investment.net” sold for $100,000. If you assumed that then you would be WRONG! Pengyou.net sold for $100,000 and Investment.net sold for $25,250. While on the surface this may seem peculiar, I would argue that its not wrong or misguide at all just a little off.  Almost just not quite there yet.  I believe the keyword is worth $100,000, this keyword 朋友.net.  I would encourage the buyer of Pengyou.net to try and acquire 朋友.net now before its too late. 朋友 has 18,000 unique searches with an Estimated Avg. CPC of $.18. Check out Google trends for 朋友 and Pengyou.

I believe the sales this week are indicative of whats to come for the rest of 2010 and the first part of 2011.  1. The Chinese domain market will be a major factor in 2010/2011 and 2.) Not all notable IDN sales will be dot COM, or even cctlds but  I believe there may be a few sales in other extensions such as .org or .net that may make a splash.
